Economic Archive

Wirtschaftsarchiv BW

The Baden-Württemberg Economic Archive (official name: Wirtschaftsarchiv Baden-Württemberg (WABW)) is the main archive for sources about the economic life in our state. It was established as a foundation in 1980, by the twelve chambers of commerce and industry (CCI) in Baden-Württemberg and the federal state Baden-Württemberg itself. The headquarters are located in rooms of the university Hohenheim in Stuttgart.

As a co-financed establishment between the CCI’s and the federal state Baden–Württemberg, the WABW has acquired around 14,000 running meters of archive-worthy documents from approximately 768 companies, chambers of commerce and industry, trade corporations, unions and individuals.

A fascinating selection from the various areas of economic and social life is collected and registered. The archive’s holding includes old advertisements, rare catalogues, photographs of work environments, technical drawings, financial statements, economic statements and much more. This extensive collection of economic and sociohistorical resources creates an overview of the social, economic and cultural conditions in our state.

German language skills are required for researching our deposits.
